Today I would like to share a few data about painting on silk with all the creative readers. The knowledge comes in handy if you want to give a homemade gift or even try to sell a few of your masterpieces.
Step 1: Gather the Expedients.
Your artistic creativity will require:
pure silk (neckerchief, handkerchief, a tie,...)
a wooden frame (it can be adjustable or a frame of an old painting)
newspaper or a piece of an old cloth
pins
soft drawing pencil (B8 or B6)
gutta for drawing the patterns (it is similar to tempera paint)
a few plastic cups (they can be from yogurt)
a few brushes
silk colors.
special salt for silk.
Step 2: Secure the Working Area.
Use the newspaper or a cloth to secure the working area. Than put all of the expedients on the worktable and secure the wooden frame with some tape. Put the silk on the frame and and fix it to the edges with some pins.
Step 3: Use Your Imagination and Start with the Work.
Draw a pattern on silk, use the pencil. You can draw with the usage of your imagination or you can use already made patterns. Than you can use the gutta, paint it on the patterns. Gutta secures them, prevents the spilling of the colors. Than color the content, you can use gutta or ordinary silk colors for that. You can make some effects if you put some special salt on the surface. Salt will absorb the color and make some beautiful ornaments on silk.
A HINT: You will need a lot of patience while drawing.
Step 4: The Finish.
Your handkerchief or a scarf must be dried. Leave it alone for about 12 hours. If you are in a hurry, you can dry it with the usage of a hair-dryer.
Clean the brushes and cups.
A HINT: Make sure you wash silk the proper way. If you don't, it will soon be torn to pieces. Be careful and good luck!
